How to Opt In to Texts

Barney Trucking, Inc. texts only its own employees, mainly truck drivers, from (435) 529-8436. We send no marketing. Texting is optional and is not a condition of employment: drivers can always call instead, and get sign-in codes by email.

A driver starts getting texts in one of three ways.

1. The driver texts us first

A driver texts (435) 529-8436 to report a truck problem, send photos or ask about their work. The number is published on this page and on our SMS Terms. We reply only about what they texted us about. Our first reply names us and says how to opt out, for example:

Barney Trucking Shop: got it. Unit 4127, ticket SD-1043. Text photos to this number. Questions? Call 435-529-4361. Reply STOP to opt out.

2. The driver says yes on a call to the shop

When a driver calls the shop line, (435) 529-4361, about a breakdown, the automated assistant or a service writer asks:

Can we text you at this number about this ticket? Message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP at any time to opt out.

We text only if the driver says yes, and we record the yes with the repair ticket. The first text is the confirmation shown above, which includes “Reply STOP to opt out”.

3. The driver enrolls for sign-in codes in BT App

BT App is our internal employee app. After signing in, a driver can choose to get future sign-in codes by text:

  1. They open Profile → Security → Text Sign-In Codes.
  2. They enter their mobile number and their BT Drive Password.
  3. They tick an unchecked consent box, which reads:
I agree to get sign-in code texts from Barney Trucking BT App at this number. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. SMS Terms · Privacy Notice

The Text me a code button stays disabled until the box is ticked, and the box is never ticked in advance. “SMS Terms” and “Privacy Notice” link to the pages below. The driver then enters the code we text them, which confirms they control the number. We record the consent with the time and the wording version. After that, one code is sent each time the driver asks for one to sign in. Email codes keep working.

This screen is behind sign-in, so here is a screenshot of it as a driver sees it, before they tick the box (open the full-size image):

BT App Text Sign-In Codes screen: mobile number and BT Drive Password fields, an unchecked box reading 'I agree to get sign-in code texts from Barney Trucking BT App at this number.' with the rates, STOP and HELP disclosure and links to SMS Terms and Privacy Notice, and a disabled 'Text me a code' button.
BT App → Profile → Security → Text Sign-In Codes.
